Sanvi sat upright, eyes darting between the people she loved most. The silence grew louder with every heartbeat.
Her father exhaled deeply, stepped forward, and took a seat beside her. “Sanvi,” he began gently, placing his hand over hers, “I’ve fixed your marriage.”
The words landed like thunder in her ears. She blinked, unsure if she’d heard right. “You… fixed it?” she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.
He nodded. “With the Raichands. Abhishek Raichand. The wedding is in two months.”
For a moment, she just stared at him, the world around her blurring. She hadn’t even been told there was a proposal — and now she was told there was a wedding?
Behind her, a glass clinked sharply. “Papa, how could you?” Arin’s voice thundered through the room.
Sanvi turned. Her bhai stood rigid, anger blazing in his eyes. “You didn’t even ask her. You just decided?” he demanded.
“It’s not like that, Arin—” Arjun began, but Arin cut him off.
“No, Papa, it’s exactly like that. You set her future without a word to her. Do you even know who Abhishek Raichand is? That man is colder than stone. He won’t give her love, he won’t even give her time!”
“Arin,” Kritika said softly, but he ignored her.
“She deserves someone who laughs with her, who understands her, not someone who signs a marriage like it’s a business merger!”
Sanvi sat frozen. Her fingers trembled against the fabric of her dress.
“Bhai…” she finally said, her voice soft but firm. He looked at her, pain flashing in his eyes.
“I know you’re angry,” she said gently, “but Papa would never do anything to hurt me.”
“You’re just saying yes because it’s Papa,” he shot back, voice cracking.
Tears welled in her eyes. “Yes. Because it’s Papa.”
Silence fell again, heavier this time.
And though her heart was uncertain and her mind flooded with questions, Sanvi had already made her decision — not out of pressure, but out of love.
Even if the road ahead was cold, she would walk it… for him.
